Benedykt Olszewski - Poland
Born in Cracow in 1986. He spent his childhood in a home filled with books that he was not that eager to read, though. During his school years he usually discovered the charm mostly of those pieces that were not on the reading list. Therefore, it is not that strange that after graduating from the faculty of English and German Philology at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow he started Philosophy there as well. Presently he is learning Russian, Spanish and, on his own, hieroglyphic writing and the American Sign Language (ASL) as well. His debiut was a story "Zero czyli suma przeciwieństw", that was published in a literary magazine Pinezka and was presented on air in Radio ART. His proze and poetry is also published in ProArte, Cegła, literary quarterlies such as Argument and Kozirynek. 10th May 2007 a poetry evening entitled "Kostki lodu" took place in Cracow and a review on the event was provided by a monthly PlusRatio. In April 2009 his poems appeared in Dziennik Polski with a positive opinion from Józef Baran in his column wiersz-owisko. He wrote: "(...) I find Benedykt's poems interesting, as words in his poems are surprised with other words and form original matches by connotation, somewhat like they were once dancing around in miniatures by Miron Białoszewski, but at the same time their author does not renounce reflection, so it is not just an empty game of words(...)"
